Introduction

What Vellum Architecture is, who it serves, and how this manual is laid out.

What it is#

Vellum Architecture is a project-management platform built specifically for architecture firms. It replaces the patchwork of spreadsheets, file shares, and email chains that most studios rely on with a single workspace covering projects, files, calendars, clients, and billing.

The product is shaped around the day-to-day reality of running a studio: every project belongs to a company, follows a stage workflow, lives at one of your locations, and is owned by a responsible employee. Clients see only what you choose to share through the portal.

Who it's for#

Vellum is used by independent architects, multi-person studios, and multi-office firms across Portugal. It assumes some Portuguese specifics — the most visible being the use of NIF (fiscal number) on every client record.

If you manage projects, deadlines, file submissions, and client approvals — and you want all of that in one place — this is the manual for you.

How these docs are organised#

These docs are split into six sections. Read them top to bottom on your first visit, or jump straight to the topic you need:

  • Getting Started — sign-up paths, the onboarding wizard, and inviting your team.
  • Core Concepts — the entities Vellum is built on (projects, stages, files, events, clients, locations).
  • How-tos — step-by-step guides for the common day-to-day actions.
  • Permissions — what Admins, General users, and Clients can do.
  • Plans & Pricing — tiers, billing intervals, trial behaviour, and storage.
  • Help & Reference — FAQs, glossary, troubleshooting, and how to reach support.
