Signing up
Two paths into Vellum: Office Owner (creates the company) and Employee (joins one).
Two paths#
Every account belongs to one company. The first person from a firm to sign up creates that company; everyone else joins it via an invitation. Which path you pick at sign-up is what determines whether you become the owner or a team member.
Office Owner#
Choose this if you are setting up Vellum for your firm. You'll provide the office details, your own profile, your office locations (branches), and you'll be able to invite employees from inside the wizard or later.
Office Owners are created with `permission_level = ADMIN`, which is required to manage company settings, project types, billing, and to delete projects.
Employee#
Choose this if your firm already uses Vellum and your administrator has shared a 6-character link code with you. The code is valid for 7 days and binds your account to the right company on first login.
Employees default to `permission_level = GENERAL` — they can do most day-to-day work but cannot delete projects or change billing. An admin can promote an employee later.
After signing up#
After sign-up, your account is created in Firebase Auth and a profile row is bootstrapped on first visit to the dashboard. From there:
- Office Owners are routed into the multi-step onboarding wizard.
- Employees are routed to the dashboard if their code already attached them to a company, or to a holding screen if not.
