Signing up

Two paths into Vellum: Office Owner (creates the company) and Employee (joins one).

Two paths#

Every account belongs to one company. The first person from a firm to sign up creates that company, and everyone else joins through an invitation. The path you pick at sign-up decides whether you become the owner or a team member.

Office Owner#

Choose this if you're setting up Vellum for your firm. You'll fill in the office details, your own profile, and your office locations (branches), with the option to invite employees from inside the wizard or to do it later.

Office Owners are created as Admins, which is the role needed to manage company settings, project types, billing, and to delete projects.

Employee#

Choose this if your firm already uses Vellum and an administrator has sent you a 6-character link code. The code is valid for 7 days, and it ties your account to the right company on first login.

Employees default to the General role — they can do most day-to-day work, but not delete projects or change billing. An Admin can promote them later if needed.

After signing up#

After sign-up, your account is created and your profile is set up on first visit to the dashboard. From there:

  • Office Owners are routed into the multi-step onboarding wizard.
  • Employees go straight to the dashboard if their code has already attached them to a company, or to a holding screen if it hasn't yet.
