Storage & limits

How storage is counted, the per-plan caps, and what happens when you hit them.

File storage#

File storage is tracked per subscription. Vellum sums the size of every file across all your projects' stages, whichever storage option you've configured.

Per-plan caps:

  • Core — 50 GB pooled.
  • Professional — 500 GB pooled.
  • Business — 2 TB + 50 GB per seat.

Users & projects#

Plans cap your team size; projects are unlimited on every tier:

  • Core — 1–2 users. Unlimited projects.
  • Professional — up to 7 users. Unlimited projects.
  • Business — 8+ seats, no upper limit. Unlimited projects.

An active project is one that isn't in the Concluded state and hasn't been deleted. You can keep using Vellum even after you've concluded everything — finished projects stay accessible.

What happens when you hit a limit#

When you reach a limit:

  • Storage cap. New uploads are blocked until you free space (by deleting files) or upgrade.
  • User cap. New employee invitations are blocked. Existing users keep working as usual.
  • Custom project types (Core). Core is capped at 5 custom project types; Professional and Business are unlimited.

All limits are soft from a data-loss perspective — nothing is deleted, you just can't add more until you upgrade or free up space.
